Oh joy. The newsletter submission program thingy. This twisted spawn of orwellian hell again.
So yeah, I'll admit, I boo boo'd and didn't write it in notepad at first, so I lost another attempt when I hit backspace. This thing hates me.
But, without further ado, I present: Another attempt by Virion to write a newsletter, with a 172% of failure!
So, first off: Member News!
We're getting some new wolves again! Or well, potential wolves, but still!
Still in the process are MrFister, my forum-shy but crazy friend TheFuzzyFurry, and Flying_Kittens.
New this week however, are DustinMAB5150, Ninjacx's companion from Combat Arms, and Prowler.
To all of the applicants, stay active, be friendly, and best of luck!
Off to the Gaming News:
Gearbox announces HD remakes of Homeworld 1 and 2!
You might remember Gearbox buying the Homeworld series back in April, uttering silent space-noises about “making them accessible on today’s leading digital platforms”. It turns that’s code for ‘HD remake’, with Gearbox announcing yesterday at the Penny Arcade Expo in Australia that both Homeworld and its sequel (and presumably Homeworld’s expansion, Cataclysm) will be given high-definition remakes. Not only that, but the original games will soon be making their way to digital shops too.
Gearbox didn’t release any details about the games, so it’s not clear whether they’ll just be sprucing up the art or if they’ll be tinkering about with the games under the bonnet too. Gearbox – and in particular, its Chief Creative Officer Brian Martel – “personally spearheaded the acquisition” of the series for a cool $1.35 million a few months ago, so he’s obviously rather fond of Relic’s excellent deep-space strategy games. Hopefully that enthusiasm will filter down to the remakes.
I've not played the Homeworld series myself, but it does look fairly interesting to me, especially if it ends up looking nice and still playing smooth.
Battlefield 4 singleplayer plot details revealed in new blog post.
Battlefield, and plot? Pffffft. But still.
Battlefield 4 won’t be released until later this fall, but it’s not too early to pore over every aspect of one of the year’s biggest games. The Battlefield Blog is only too willing to indulge us in our obsessions, of course, so it has released a summary of the opening scenes of Battlefield 4’s single-player storyline.
Players will take charge of Tombstone Squad, a small squad sent to keep increased tensions between the US, China, and Russia from boiling over. Tombstone Squad is filled with “unlikely heroes.” To ensure continued peace between these three military giants, Tombstone Squad inexplicably kills waves of Russian soldiers and performs an illegal mission into Shanghai.
Who’s commanding these guys?
“As U.S. and Russian naval forces position themselves off the coast of China, and the situation quickly escalates into a stare down akin to a tinderbox waiting for a spark,” the summary reads. “With communications dead, the Valkyrie sets course for Singapore to rendezvous with the USS Titan and the 7th US carrier group at their last known position. As you reach Singapore you are shocked to find a horrific scene of fire and mayhem. The flagship is sunk and it’s fleet eradicated, and from this point on nothing is certain.”
Ouya title TowerFall is coming to PC with new content.
If there’s one Ouya title we wanted to see break free from the confines of console exclusivity, it was TowerFall—and hey, it looks like we just might have got our wish! Matt Thorson, developer of the bouncy, pixelly, multiplayer-brawly thing, has tweeted that a PC version is indeed in development—and it’s going to include new content, too.
There’s no official word on what the new content will be, but as Thorson mentions getting back into TowerFall level design, we can hopefully expect a few more levels. Thorson’s looking at a pricetag of $15 for the PC version, similar to that of the Ouya version—but he tells a fan that he might bump that up to $20, “if the new content justifies it.” I’m hoping some online functionality will be added so we won’t have to cluster uncomfortably close together when playing with our friends.
Thorson’s quick to point out that this shouldn’t be seen as a comment on the Ouya’s sales—he just “want[s] to expand.” Still, I’m glad he’s expanding onto our preferred gaming platform, ensuring that we won’t need to expand our wallets to fork out for another console.
It's nice to see the OUYA getting some nice titles though. Seemed to me like it went dead quiet for a while, surrounding the OUYA. But I suppose that's just because I don't have one :P
Other than that, there's not alot of interesting news I found, and due to today being quite busy for me, I'm cutting 'er short here
Remember, there's always a wolf in the woods that poops. And if it doesn't, it's probably an android, and should be destroyed.
