EA obtains exclusive rights to Star Wars

Electronic Arts and the Walt Disney Company, which obtained the Star Wars franchise as part of its $4.05 billion acquisition of LucasFilm last year, have signed a multi-year exclusive licensing agreement to develop and publish Star Wars games.

"While we don't have any details to share today on specific titles, our development teams are already brimming with design ideas," said EA Labels President Frank Gibeau. "The EA Studios that will develop these games are some of the most innovative and popular creative teams in the world, and include DICE and Visceral, in addition to the BioWare team, which is already developing for the Star Wars franchise."

The financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed. EA will develop and publish new Star Wars games for the "core gaming audience" across all interactive platforms and "most popular game genres." Disney will retain certain rights to mobile, social, tablet and online games.

This makes me sad I was really hoping that the Star Wars games would've had a new hope (hehehe) but now that EA have their grubby fingers on it, the franchise will be destroyed

Its not all that bad if you think about it, bio-ware did knights of the old republic and the old republic, and maybe DICE will finally do a battlefront 3.

With Disney my worry was they were just gona do ipad shovel games. But now i think theres abit of hope fingers crossed.

but Bioware isnt bioware anymore. TOR is not that great. And guess what...having Origin as a platform for the titles won't do them any good either. With EA there is no hope, or have you forgotten the Dead Space 3 fiasco. (Yes, even Viceral is making a Star Wars title)

EA murders games and it's industry. Ill take Disney over them any day.

All gamers seem to roll with these times though. Shame we not seem to be able to take a stand against these corperations. (see video)

It's cool though, different strokes for different folks. (or the other way around?)

I rather have them do a planetside esc grand scale FPSMMO then another BF3 clone imo.

Bioware sold their soul years ago. Mass Effect 2/3 and DA 2 are the products of that deal.

EA making games for the "core gaming audience"? They've been over using that line for the past decade. EA should change their moto from "It's in the game" to "It's how we fuckin make it"

I have faith in DICE to make a solid FPS. Can almost guarantee though we'll see 4 or so map packs from EA, that are absurdly priced, as well as over half the budget spent on marketing instead of innovation, because hey, more money more profit right?
